Itinerary

We will pick you up at your hotel around 5:00 am and drive for approximately 4 hours to Cachora. During the drive, we can admire the beautiful landscapes and snow-capped mountains of Apu Salkantay and Apu Veronica. After breakfast, we start our trek with a Mother Earth Offering with our Andean Priest to set our intention and show gratitude.

The trek begins with a 4-hour descent, bringing us closer to the roaring Apurimac River. We will enjoy a delicious lunch and later descend through the eastern slopes of the Andes to reach Coca Masana (2330m / 7,644ft). We will continue our hike to Chiquiska, observing how the flora and fauna slowly change along the route. There, we will stay overnight at a local homestay and enjoy our dinner.

Today will likely be the most challenging day of the trek. We begin with a tough 3-hour climb, offering our first glimpses of the Choquequirao ruins. We will enjoy our lunch in Marampata and then continue our hike to the archaeological site of Choquequirao, meaning “Cradle of Gold.” It once served as the control gate between the Amazon and the city of Cusco. The sacred Inca site is adorned with ruins, its buildings and terraces nestled below a flattened hilltop, leveled centuries ago and encircled with stones to create a platform. Our guide will provide more insights into the history and spiritual significance of this Inca citadel. Ample time will be given for personal exploration of this incredible site. Our spiritual guide will then lead a Unification Ceremony to deepen our connection with the energetic surroundings. Later, we will hike to Marampata and return for dinner and rest.

Waking up in the middle of the Andes is an unforgettable experience! We will start our day with an early breakfast and continue our ascent until reaching Chiquiska (1950m / 6,397ft), where we will spend the night. We will have a wonderful day, enjoying the breathtaking landscapes and moments of pure connection.

Following a nutritious breakfast, we’ll continue our hiking adventure until reaching Cachora. After a well-deserved lunch break, we will take our private transportation back to Cusco, arriving in the evening.

FAQ about this trek

The Choquequirao Trek is considered challenging due to its steep and rugged terrain, high altitudes, and variable weather conditions. Hikers should be in good physical condition and acclimatize to the altitude beforehand. The trek involves several hours of hiking each day, and some sections may be physically demanding.

Our local guide, knowledgeable about the area, will take care of you during this private 4-day trek. The advantage of a private trek is that we go at your pace, allowing you to fully enjoy the breathtaking scenery and historical sites. The guide will provide support, share insights about the trail, and ensure that you have a safe and memorable experience. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or a first-timer, the pace and schedule can be tailored to your preferences, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of the Andes.

Essential items to pack include sturdy hiking boots, a comfortable backpack, weather-appropriate clothing (including rain gear), a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, a refillable water bottle, and a camera to capture the stunning landscapes. Hikers should also bring snacks and enough water for the trek, as there may be limited access to supplies along the trail.

Choquequirao is situated at an altitude of approximately 3,050 meters (10,010 feet) above sea level. As the trek involves significant altitude changes, proper acclimatization is crucial to reduce the risk of altitude-related illnesses.

The Choquequirao Trek is like embarking on a super cool adventure! It leads you to the ancient Choquequirao Inca site, kind of like Machu Picchu. Picture this: lush forests, towering mountains, and the Apurimac River—it’s a total feast for the eyes.

What’s neat about it? Well, it’s not as crowded as the usual trails, so you get a more personal vibe. The trek has some tricky bits with ups and downs, adding a fun challenge to the mix.
