Spiritual Ausangate with Shaman and Rituals (2 Days)

A Sacred Exploration of Healing and Enlightenment

Overview

Discover Ausangate Mountain through a distinctive lens: trade hiking for horseback riding. Joined by our Andean shaman, engage in ancient ceremonies like cleansing, coca leaf reading, and a gratitude ceremony. Immerse yourself in local culture with a homestay, nestled amidst the breathtaking beauty of the snow-capped Apu Ausangate and stunning mountain lagoons.

Itinerary

We’ll start our trip from Cusco, heading towards the South Valley for about 3 hours until we reach the Pacchanta community near the Ausangate mountain. Next, we’ll either hop on horses or walk to explore the Ausangate mountain landscape. Along the way, we’ll stop for breakfast at a local family’s house. Then, we’ll continue our journey towards Ausangate. Once we arrive, we’ll be welcomed into another local family’s home, where we’ll have a coca leaf oracle reading with our Andean shaman. After lunch, we’ll participate in some spiritual cleansing ceremonies right in front of the Ausangate mountain. We will spend the night at a local homestay close to Ausangate and enjoy a local dinner.

Today, we’ll kick off our day with breakfast before heading to the Otorongo Lagoon, a special spot in the Ausangate area. It’s about a 25-minute walk to reach the lagoon, where we’ll participate in a significant Andean ceremony led by our local priest. This ceremony is all about expressing gratitude and connecting with nature and ourselves. Our Andean shaman will share insights into Inca cosmology and ancient practices. After this meaningful experience, we’ll go back to Pacchanta for lunch and then take our transportation back to Cusco.

FAQ

This 2-day program includes walking distances, particularly around Ausangate, where high altitude is a factor. However, participants have the option to either take in the views on horseback or explore by foot, depending on their preference.

At the local homestay, you’ll stay with a friendly family in basic but clean rooms with cozy blankets. While it’s not as fancy as a hotel, you’ll get a real feel for local life surrounded by beautiful mountains and lakes.

Plus, you’ll enjoy tasty local food made with fresh ingredients, giving you a true taste of the region. And you’ll be sharing this experience with our shaman and local guide, making it even more special.

Our Andean healers hail from the Q’eros Community nestled in the high mountains of the Andes. This local community preserves ancestral ceremonies just as they have for generations. They are esteemed as the last direct descendants of the Incas, dedicated to upholding their cultural heritage and spirituality

The Andean shamans conduct spiritual cleansing ceremonies using energetic tools, water, and flowers. They are skilled in reading coca leaves, offering spiritual guidance through the coca leaf oracle reading. Additionally, they lead ceremonial offerings to Mother Earth as a gesture of gratitude to oneself and the spirits of nature.

People in Peru cope with altitude in various ways, including:

  1. Gradual acclimatization: Many travelers gradually ascend to higher altitudes over several days to allow their bodies to adjust to the lower oxygen levels.

  2. Hydration: Drinking plenty of water helps prevent dehydration, a common issue at high altitudes.

  3. Rest and relaxation: Taking it easy during the first few days at high altitude allows the body to acclimatize more effectively.

  4. Coca tea: Coca tea, made from the leaves of the coca plant, is believed to help alleviate symptoms of altitude sickness, although its effectiveness varies from person to person.

  5. Medication: In severe cases of altitude sickness, medication such as acetazolamide may be prescribed to help alleviate symptoms.
